Newcastle artist and graphic designer Lillian Webb rates writing and illustrating a 24-page children’s picture book, Alfie Happy to be Himself, as her proudest achievement to date. Lillian, who studies Natural History Illustration at the University of Newcastle and teaches foundation design and illustration skills at Hunter Design School, is working towards a career in publishing. “My life’s goal is to be a published children’s book illustrator, working in the publishing industry, creating products of entertainment and education.” What propels Lillian’s art practice is a love of “communicating meaning through images”. She uses her preferred mediums of watercolour and coloured pencils to create, among other works, children’s book characters and illustrated educational tools that often carry content of cultural significance.
